Making Memories

My house is a disaster.
We (when I say "we" I mean Jason!) are in the middle of renovating our kitchen.
(But I am helping him. I pass him tools sometimes, and I hold stuff for him when he needs me to
....very happily I might add....
and I am also the official  41 year-old cleaner-upper. Yay for me.)
There are boxes and tools and dishes and non-perishables and appliances and misc. items EVERYWHERE!
It is a little overwhelming to have my house in such dis-array.
I am trying to keep the rest of the house in some semblance of order, but I am not really good at separating the things I am able to do, from the mess of kitchen renovations, so it seems like the whole house is falling apart around me.
The Reno's are coming along nicely, but there is still a lot of stuff to do! spite of all that mess, and in spite of all the things that needed to get done, on Saturday, my husband decided that we were going to take a break from everything and go for a winter wiener roast.
We packed up the essentials and headed out.
All FIVE of us! (Huge smile!)
We went to a little campground my husband has access to
through work, not having any idea of what to expect from the snow.
There was a lot of snow!
When we arrived, I have to admit,
my first reaction was to just turn around and come home to barbecue instead.
 But my husband was undeterred!
We trudged through almost two feet of deep snow for a looooong way, to where we thought the fire pit was supposed to be. Of course we couldn't see the fire pit because everything was covered in snow. But my husband continued to trudge around through the snow until he found the fire pit! We then packed in shovels and chairs and wiener sticks and stuff to make a fire and the cooler of food.
I will admit, I kept thinking, "This is a whole lot of work for a wiener roast!"
But the boys shoveled out the fire pit, loaded it with wood,
and with a little determination, started a fire.
I am so glad they persisted!
Because, what a beautiful fire it was!
What a beautiful sight to see my husband come alive in the middle of no-where!
What a beautiful thing it was to have both of my sons and my daughter
enjoy each other's company!
What a beautiful time we had together as a family!
Looking at these pictures make me happy!
(I'm so glad I remembered to bring the camera!)
I've decided that I'm going to put more effort into making memories with my family.
They are the most important part of my life.
In the years ahead, when I look back over my life,
I want it to be filled with memories of them.
I want to remember the laughter we shared together.
I want to remember the days that we put everything else aside,
and made each other a priority.
I want to remember this day.
Because this, was a good day!
