Dear Vikki,
Happy Birthday! Today you are 36! Wow! When did you get so old?!?
(Says the girl who is almost 42!)
Where have the years gone? It seems like just yesterday you were standing up for me at my wedding, and then shortly after, I had the privilege of, along with Pam, yours and Richard's wedding.  That day you became family! You have added such grace and beauty to the Penney clan! I am so glad that you are my sister-in-law! But I am even gladder that you are my friend! I have so enjoyed getting to know you better through the years. I love your beautiful smile! I love your spunk, and your candor. I love the times we have spent together laughing! And the times you have allowed me to see your hurt. I like who I am when I am with you.

So today, on your birthday, I want to honor you.

I remember a time during a function we both attended at the community centre in Whitecourt. I was visiting with your mom when you stopped to chat for a few minutes. After you left, I told your mom how beautiful I thought you were. I told her I wanted to be like you when I grew up. I still do.

Vikki, I love you. In fact, even as I write this, I am unable to keep the tears in check.
(It makes it awfully hard to type!)

You are such a beautiful woman.

But you are more than your outward, physical beauty. You also have a beautifully gentle heart. It's why I want to be like you. It's what makes people love to be around you.

This may seem strange, but as I write this, there is one word that keeps coming to mind. Disarming. I can't seem to shake the thought.  I have a picture in my head, of you walking into a battlefield just before a battle will break out. I see you walking to each warrior and taking their swords from their hands and placing them on the ground. You are disarming them with such gentleness. And they let you.

It's a beautiful picture of who you are.

I think I know! it is Jesus in you!

And Vikki, that is what I love about you, best of all!

I look forward to many more times together. Times filled with fun, and laughter! (We can let Richard and Jason in on the fun as well!)

My sister, my friend,
I love you!
