My Best Darrell

Happy Birthday, Darrell!
I can't believe how the years have flown by! 37 of them to be exact! How can this be? I still remember when you were a young punk! You were, you know! But you were my favorite punk! You and I spent a lot of time together when we were younger. Enough time that many people thought we were dating!  Especially after I had Nicholas. I remember people coming up to us and commenting on much he looked like you! Sometimes we would correct them, sometimes we wouldn't. ;) I remember you would offer to take Nicholas out for walks in his stroller sometimes. When I asked you why, you explained that there was "nothing better than puppies or babies to get great attention from girls!" Ha! You were always such a charmer! And truthfully, I love that about you! I love your crazy, vibrant sense of humour. I love your loud, obnoxious ways. Where ever you go, you are the life of the party. I love being in your presence. I love the person you are.
As I write this, I am open to what God would impress upon my heart for you. He is giving me a picture of you standing with your arms lifted high above your head. And with that picture He is giving me two words for you. The first is surrender. I see you standing there with your hands lifted heavenward in in complete surrender to His calling for your life. The other word is abandon. I looked up abandon in the dictionary so I could get a better grasp on it's meaning. This is what it said.....

a·ban·don

a complete surrender to natural impulses without restraint or moderation; freedom from inhibition or conventionality: eg, to dance with reckless abandon.

Oh, how I love this! It is exactly what I hoped it meant!
Because He wants all of you. He wants your total surrender to Him, with complete and utter abandon. Without any restraint, and without any moderation. He made you to be free of inhibitions or conventionality. (I looked up conventionality, too. It means....... "something conventional, especially a normal or accepted rule of behaviour; propriety".
And you see Darrell, you were not created to fit into what people see as normal or accepted rules of behaviour. You were made to be different. I wonder sometimes if you think you should be something other than what you are. I wonder if you feel you should be less loud, or less flamboyant. But, beautiful Darrell, you were not made to be that. You were made to be you. You were made with a purpose. And you know, just as I wrote earlier, that I love being in your presence, when I read over that statement, I felt our Father impress to me, "I love to be in his presence as well." How magnificent is that! Jesus loves to be with you! He loves you the way you are. And while we, as His children, should always be striving to put aside our sinful ways, and always be seeking to be more like Him, He wouldn't want you to change who you were created to be.
Be you. Be the best Darrell you can be. It's what your family, your friends, and most importantly, your Saviour, love about you best of all!
I love you. More than you could know.
