  Dear Bryant,
  Happy birthday!
Ok, so right off the bat, I have to tell you, this is the second birthday letter that I have written to you. I'm not sure if you know this, but each of the birthday letters I write to my family members are written with a prayerful heart. Each letter I write is unique and special, and very important to me, because each recipient is unique and special, and very important to me. I spend time in prayer for each person whose letter I write, and so, I have been praying for you as well! I was almost finish with your letter and I was recalling the day of your baptism. I still remember how you came up out of the water with your arms raised above your head. As I was remembering that moment, the words from a song I used to sing in church when I was young came to mind.
"Mighty warrior, dressed for battle......"
I continued to write what I'd had in my mind but I just couldn't shake those words. So I did a little searching in my Bible and I started reading the story of Gideon in Judges chapter 6. As I read, I began to understand why I wasn't able to shake those words from that song. I began to understand what He was showing me for you. Bryant, as I read, He gave me this verse for you.
12 "And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, Mighty warrior!"
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the story of Gideon. I'm linking the story Here if you would like to read it. But I want you to know something. Gideon did not start out as a warrior when the The Lord called to him. In fact, when God called him, he was hiding out from his enemies in a wine press. Gideon started out as a man who was fearful. He did not feel worthy to be called by such a great God. He questioned The Lord many times just to make sure He had the right guy. In fact, at one point, Gideon was afraid he might make God angry because he asked once more for confirmation. He just could not believe that The Lord was calling him to such a great task. And The Lord showed him once again, that yes, He was indeed calling Gideon. And Bryant, He is calling you, too. I don't know the exact plan and purpose that God has for you, but rest assured, He does have a plan and a purpose for you. And, Bryant? Know this, He does see you as a mighty warrior. So do I. I keep thinking of you coming up out of the water; your arms raised above your head, celebrating! Victorious! Triumphant! God was gracious enough to show me a glimpse of what He sees in you! Maybe you don't see yourself this way yet. Give it some time. Bryant, I would encourage you to start reading His Word. Dig into scripture for all of it's treasures. Ask God to show you His plan and purpose for your life. Seek after Him with your whole heart, and I promise you, He will grow you into the mighty warrior He has planned for you to be!
Philippians 4:8-9 says,
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. "
Start there. Remain pure. Put into practice what you learn. Don't be discouraged! Becoming a warrior takes time! But the results will be so worth it!
Bryant, my brother-in-law, but even more so, my brother in Christ, I love you!
Have a blessed, and wonderful year!
