Nicholas

Happy Birthday, Nicholas!
20 years old today! Honestly, I can hardly believe it! It seems like just yesterday I was the one picking out your clothes for the day, and helping you brush your teeth. I was the one who chose for you to have that perfect little mushroom cut on your head! I arranged for your play dates with friends. I got to make all of the decisions for your little life that I thought were best. And I was the most important person in your life. Back then, you actually thought I was pretty smart! (Maybe not as smart as dad, but still!) You trusted me to keep you safe. I was your mom. And you loved me. And I loved you.
How things have changed! While I will forever be your mom, and even though our love for each other will never change, I no longer get to make decisions for you. You get to make your own decisions now. I am no longer the one responsible for you. Now, you are the one responsible for yourself. I don't get to pick your clothes or your friends. Those are your decisions as well. But, it's hard for me to let go.
Your dad and I raised you up to the very best of our ability. And while there were some bumps along the way, some angry times, and some painful times, it has been a wonderful twenty years with you! And I am just so proud of you! You are such a handsome guy! You are smart, funny, and determined. You are capable of so many things! (I think that just goes to show what an awesome mom you have!) I love that you are preparing for your future, and that you are persuing something you love.
Nicholas, I want you to know that God is in persuit of you. He has a plan and purpose for your life. If you surrender yourself completely to Him, He will completely blow your mind! He is just so in love with you, Nicholas. And He desires to fill you to overflowing with love. Love, that will reflect Him. Love, that will draw people to Himself. Love, that will move mountains.
And Nicholas, I want you to know something. God can use anything to bring glory to Himself. Even situations from our past that we are not proud of. He has this amazing ability to take our painful experiences and use them in ways that we could never imagine.

Michael W. Smith sings a song called Sovereign Over Us. In it there is a line that says, "Even what the enemy means for evil, You turn it for our good, and for Your glory."
The first time I heard those words, God impressed them into my heart, for you. Isn't it amazing that no matter what kinds of things we may experience, He can use those things to bring honour and glory to His name? And isn't it doubly amazing that He is choosing to use you?
Nicholas, my heart, let Him use you! Surrender yourself wholly to Him so that His perfect plan and purpose for your life can be carried out. As He continues to persue you, my hope and prayer is that you will persue Him!
He will never leave you, nor will He ever forsake you.
But then, you already know that, don't you? 😉
I love you!
You're the best!
Mom

Sovereign Over Us

There is strength within the sorrow / There is beauty in our tears / And You meet us in our mourning / With a love that casts out fear / You are working in our waiting / You’re sanctifying us / When beyond our understanding / You’re teaching us to trust
YOUR PLANS ARE STILL TO PROSPER / YOU HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN US / YOU’RE WITH US IN THE FIRE AND THE FLOOD / YOU’RE FAITHFUL FOREVER / PERFECT IN LOVE / YOU ARE SOVEREIGN OVER US
You are wisdom unimagined / Who could understand Your ways / Reigning high above the Heavens / Reaching down in endless grace / You’re the lifter of the lowly / Compassionate and kind / You surround and You uphold me / And Your promises are my delight // Even what the enemy means for evil / You turn it for our good / You turn it for our good and for Your glory / Even in the
valley, You are faithful / You’re working for our good / You’re working for our good and for Your glory
